Good Morning Smoothie

Goodmorning Smoothie

It’s one of those rainy spring mornings again. To wake up, I made an antioxidant-packed smoothie bursting with fresh citrus and ginger. If you’re fighting a cold, I read that you could also add a small amount of cayenne pepper to the smoothie. I’m not sure if I’m that daring in the am. 🙂 If you give the cayenne a try, let me know.

Good Morning Smoothie

Yield: 1 Smoothie       Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
2 medium navel oranges, sliced
1 grapefruit, sliced
1/2 lemon
1/2 inch of peeled, grated ginger
3-4 ice cubes
*pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions:

1. If using an electric citrus juicer, juice the oranges, grapefruit, and 1/2 a lemon. Add the grated ginger, citrus juice, and ice cubes to the blender. Blend until smooth and drink immediately.

2. If juicing by hand, place a fine mesh sieve over a large measuring cup with a spout. Squeeze the citrus by hand. Add the grated ginger, citrus juice, and ice cubes to the blender. Blend until smooth and enjoy!

    1. Okay, I’m going to try it out tomorrow. 🙂 I’m a huge fan of spices, but never really had cayenne in the morning. But after following Savvy South Indian for so long, you’ve made me realize that a little spice is always a good thing 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

  1. Looks delicious and refreshing. I’m digging that bit of cayenne. It’s also supposed to increase metabolism.
By the way my dear Ellie, you’ll be proud that I started buying cashew milk for smoothies vs cow’s milk. I had been using rice milk but I wanted something with more protein. Cow’s milk doesn’t really like me 😦
    LOL!!!

    1. I gave it a try this morning, and I actually liked it. Hey if it speeds up metabolism, I’m in 🙂 I love cashew milk, it’s super creamy. I read a Cornell study that said people with ancestors from climates supporting the production of cow’s milk, like Europe, can digest milk better than those with ancestors from cultures that did not raise dairy cattle. It rings true with a lot of my friends and family members. Crazy how DNA could effect food.

  2. Oooh this looks awesome as-is but I’m digging the cayenne idea! A little spice first thing in the morning would probably wake me up better than caffeine! Gorgeous color here, too 🙂

    1. So happy you liked it Kelsie. I recently decided to lower my espresso intake during the day…kind of regretting that decision lol. This did wake me up, especially when I decided to go for the cayenne pepper. 🙂
