Pink Power Shake

pink-power-shake

After a busy weekend, I can’t think of a better way to kick off this Monday with my favorite power shake. It tastes like a strawberry milkshake and has around 17 grams of plant-based protein. I also used pure vanilla powder for the first time. If you haven’t tried it in your smoothies, I highly recommend it.

Pink Power Shake

Yield: 1 adult or 2 child size shakes           Total time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:
5 large ripe strawberries
1 cup Silk plain yogurt
1/2 frozen banana
2 tbsp. hemp hearts*
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla powder**

Optional Topping:
Plain yogurt or coconut milk
Dash of Sprinkles for good measure

Directions:
Blend ingredients until smooth. Enjoy immediately!

Tips:
*I used Bob’s Red Mill Hulled Hemp Seed Hearts and loved the subtle nutty flavor it gave the shake. Store the hulled hemp hearts in an air locked container or bag in the refrigerator for a longer shelf life.
** Pure vanilla powder is found in the baking isle at the grocery store. It can be used in smoothies and also in baked goods, pancakes, waffles…the list goes on.

  1. That does look delicious Ellie 🙂
Since I don’t like strawberries, I’d probably try this with blueberries or raspberries.
By the way, I have a quick question, I noticed that you listed coconut milk as an optional topping, is this coconut yogurt?
One of my besties eats it all of the time but I’ve never had it. I was concerned that the taste of coconut would be too overpowering. She says no but I’d like a second opinion 🙂

    1. Raspberries would be great in this smoothie. I had frozen coconut milk leftover from another recipe and blended it to add as a topping. Of course it melted by the time I found the ipad wedged in my couch. Coconut yogurt is a wonderful alternative for people like me that are intolerant to dairy. It has a hint of coconut flavor. The down side is it has little protein in it. Hope this helps 🙂

      1. I’m going to have that without the sugar toppings as a breakfast – I’m getting a bit bored of egg for breakfast most days so this will be a lovely refreshing change! x
